‘Ghostbusters’ actress Leslie Jones gets hate via Twitter; calls on people to take action
‘Ghostbusters’ actress Leslie Jones has come under attack by trolls via Twitter who have barraged her with racial insults and hateful comments.
Jones said she was “in a personal hell” and urged the social networking service to do more to eradicate abuse. Twitter’s CEO reached out to her personally, asking the SNL actress to contact him directly.
Monday night, Jones said she had been hit with a series of racist tweets, some of which she retweeted.
Brought her to tears, Jones called on Twitter to strengthen guidelines and for users to “stop letting the ignorant people be the loud ones.”
Twitter has said in a statement, “this type of abusive behavior is not permitted on Twitter, and we’ve taken action on many of the accounts reported to us by both Leslie and others.”
Jones posted one last time late Monday night and hasn’t been active since, writing, “I leave Twitter tonight with tears and a very sad heart. All this cause I did a movie. You can hate the movie but the s*** I got today…wrong”.
This isn’t the first time Jones has had to deal with hurtful comments on Twitter.
