A ‘Rosanne’ Reboot Could Be Imminent
Nearly a week after ABC canceled Roseanne following the star’s racist tweet, co-star Sara Gilbert spoke on her other show, The Talk, about the sitcom’s end. Gilbert was an executive producer on the revival and one of the driving forces to get it to happen.
ABC is reportedly looking into ways to reformat Roseanne without its star, including a show possibly centered on Gilbert’s character Darlene, though Gilbert and the network haven’t commented on those reports
Sources have now reportedly said that network executives started negotiating when Tom Werner, who produced “Roseanne” through his company Carsey-Werner, got involved over the weekend in direct talks with the network.
Our sources say the network’s fine tuning last-minute details but mostly about Roseanne Barr herself. She served as an executive producer and was the face of the show. They may focus on Sara Gilbert’s character, Darlene. John Goodman is “very interested” as is the rest of the cast and crew.
Although ABC seems to have good cause to fire Roseanne as both the star and Executive Producer, the network may be contractually bound to pay her a fee or back end or both for her participation in creating the show. ABC, of course, could argue it’s now a different show.
It’s nice to see that ABC is trying to salvage the jobs of those affected by ABC’s quick decision to cancel the show. We’re told an announcement could come as early as this week.
