Mornings

For Monday, May 30th:

Matthew Morrison — yes, Mr. Shuester on GLEE — has left his role as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance just a week after the season 17 premiere. In his statement/apology he said he was leaving because he “did not follow competition production protocols, preventing me from being able to judge the competition fairly.” No details were given.

Apparently, people WILL go to the movies for something other than superheroes. Top Gun: Maverick just annihilated the competition at the box office this weekend, with $124 million in ticket sales. With the U.S. Memorial Day holiday today, that number is expected to surpass $150 million. “The Bob’s Burgers Movie” came in a distant third with a still respectable 15 million bucks. Dr. Strange was in second place.

While on vacation with Offset, Cardi B. watched a yacht sink. No one was aboard, thankfully, and the video she posted got a million views.  And she will guest star in a new episode of the animated preschool series Baby Shark’s Big Show as a parody of herself named Sharki B, who will be swimming into Carnivore Cove to perform her splash hit dance craze, The Seaweed Sway. That’s today on Nickelodeon.

The Star Wars celebration event last week led to lots of news. If you missed it, Jude Law will star in a new series titled Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. It’s a “story about a group of kids, about 10 years old, from a tiny little planet who accidentally get lost in the Star Wars galaxy.” The timeline falls after Return of the Jedi.

In other headlines, Music icon Ronnie Hawkins, who influenced a generation of Canadian rock artists, has died at 87 following a lengthy illness..

…season 17 of America’s Got Talent returns tomorrow to a full audience for the first time since the pandemic began.

…and Johnny Depp rumoured to be signed for ‘Beetlejuice 2’
