SERENA WILLIAMS WELCOMES SECOND CHILD, A BABY GIRL _ Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, have welcomed their second child, a baby girl named Adira River Ohanian. Adira River joins her older sister, Olympia, who is five.
RUST CRIMINAL TRIAL PUSHED TO 2024 _ The trial of Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed in the accidental shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins has been delayed into next year. The trial — originally set to occur last December — has been pushed to February 21, 2024. According to Gutierrez-Reed’s attorney, the date was moved due to “scheduling issues with the amount of witnesses that need to be interviewed.”
… The trial stems from the October 2021 incident in which Alec Baldwin inadvertently discharged a prop gun loaded with a live round. The shot killed Hutchins, and both Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed were initially charged with felony involuntary manslaughter. However, the charges for both were dropped down to reflect new gun laws passed after the shooting.
… As for Baldwin, attorneys representing the actor and El Dorado Pictures have filed a motion to dismiss a recent civil case brought against them in February by crew members Ross Addiego, Doran Curtin and Reese Price. That case accuses Baldwin and the producers of the film of “negligent and reckless conduct.”
SOMEONE RUSHED THE STAGE AT A DREW BARRYMORE AND RENEÉ RAPP TALK _ Drew Barrymore has a new protector. The actress and daytime TV host was at the 92nd Street Y in New York City on Monday for a conversation with singer Reneé Rapp when a man yelled out Barrymore’s name, appearing to startle her. As the man approached the stage, security headed towards him as Rapp put her arm around Barrymore and escorted her backstage.
… Afterward, Barrymore and Rapp returned to the stage. Barrymore said to Rapp, “Well, I have a new definition of your sexiness, it’s that level of protectiveness. That went full Bodyguard.”
NETFLIX’S NEW GAME PUTS YOU IN THE ‘LOVE IS BLIND’ PODS _ Netflix announced Tuesday that it’s putting out a new simulation game based on the hit Love Is Blind reality series — a dating show where contestants court each other by speaking through a wall, never meeting face-to-face and staying “blind” until there’s been a marriage proposal.
… The game will be the first in Netflix’s Stories series — an “interactive, narrative” game that virtually plops users into the world of one of the streaming giant’s hit series. A game trailer posted to the blog walks you through how you’d create your character’s look, choose how to engage with some the dating drama and make decisions on propositions from a virtual suitor. • VIDEO
… The Love Is Blind game is available as an app and it launches September 19. It ties in with season 5 of Love Is Blind, which comes out September 22. The game will carry no extra cost as long as you’re a Netflix subscriber.
… Netflix has been expanding into the gaming world, announcing earlier this year that it would be adding 40 new games in 2023.
INDIANA JONES 5 SUFFERS WORST-EVER BOX OFFICE LOSSES IN FRANCHISE HISTORY _ Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is a box office flop, not earning as much money for Lucasfilm as previous films in the franchise. The film kicked off with $60.4 million at the domestic box office opening weekend.
… Indiana Jones 5’s massive $300 million production budget (not including an additional estimated $100 million in promotion) has led to the downfall of Indy’s return to theaters. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny could lose Lucasfilm and Disney close to $100 million.
… To date, Dial of Destiny has only earned $375.4 million at the worldwide box office, now just the 13th-highest-grossing film of 2023.
BRITNEY SPEARS SPLITS DOGS WITH HUSBAND _ Britney Spears and Sam Asghari shared five dogs between the two of them, and have already come to an agreement on who gets each pup.
… Sam was spotted walking the couple’s Doberman, Porsha, this week — the same dog he bought as protection for Britney a couple years ago. We’ve learned Sam now has Porsha full-time, and got her back last week in an arrangement with Britney.
… Britney gets to keep four of her four-legged friends as her own.
AND JUST LIKE THAT… IS RENEWED _ Max has announced that the Sex and the City revival series, And Just Like That…, has been renewed for a third season. The announcement was made ahead of the Season 2 finale, which is set to air on Thursday. The show features the return of Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis as their iconic characters Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York, respectively.
