Celebrity Status – Entertainers Of The Year, Wonka Delights, And SNL

Entertainment Weekly’s 2023 Entertainers of the Year list is out, and topping them all is (are?) Barbenheimer. The friendly competition in theatres between Barbie and Oppenheimer helped lead an almost $2 billion increase from last year’s box office numbers. Also on the list this year, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Pedro Pascal and more.
Barbie, meanwhile, makes its streaming debut today on Max, and ‘Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget’ comes to Netflix today. It’s a sequel to 2000’s Chicken Run… and yes, all of chicken-kind faces a new threat. It stars Zachary Levi, Thandie Newton and Bella Ramsay.
In theatres today, it’s a world of (feel free to sing this part) *pure imagination*. One reviewer says ‘Wonka’ defies expectations, and is absolutely charming. In this origin story, Wonka’s hope is to open a chocolate shop, only to have his dreams stifled by a pair of scheming launderers and an evil chocolate cartel. Timothée Chalamet stars as a young Willy Wonka and Hugh Grant is a sassy Oompa Loompa. Olivia Colman also stars.
In other news, the season premiere of Reacher comes to Amazon Prime Video.
Trevor Noah is set to host the Grammy Awards show on February 4th, for the fourth time.
And tomorrow night, former cast member Kate McKinnon returns to host SNL with Billie Eilish as musical guest.
