Celebrity Status – Grammy Awards, HalfTime Usher, And Apple Bombs
For Monday, February 5th:
At the Grammy Awards last night, Billie Eilish won for Song of the Year with ‘What Was I Made For’ from the Barbie movie, and Taylor Swift set a new record for most Album of the Year wins. Celine Dion made an appearance to present the award to Taylor and then Taylor announced that her new album, “Tortured Poets Department,” will arrive April 19th.
Other notable moments – Phoebe Bridgers won four trophies ahead of the main telecast, with a little help from her boygenius bandmates. SZA took home the trophy for Best R&B song, and Best Pop Solo performance went to Miley Cyrus for ‘Flowers’ — her first Grammy win. Luke Combs performed “Fast Car” with Tracy Chapman, and Jay-Z was awarded the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. (He used his speech to call out the Grammys, pointing out that his wife Beyonce has won more Grammys than anyone but hasn’t won for album of the year, saying it’s not right.)
At the movies, Argylle, the $200-million star-studded spy thriller from Apple Studios, debuted at number one with only $18 million in ticket sales.
Usher says his 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show will pay tribute to the black artists who came before him.
And Pamela Anderson will help launch a new, free TV channel premiering on Pluto TV today called Earthday 365. All the programming will focus on nature, science and the environment.
