SERIES PREMIERE: BAD MONKEY (Apple TV+) – This new comedy series, from Ted Lasso creator Bill Lawrence, stars Vince Vaughn as a detective-turned-restaurant-inspector in Florida who strives to attain his former glory. When he stumbles upon a case that involves a severed human arm, he sees his chance. The cast includes Michelle Monaghan, Jodie Turner-Smith, Natalie Martinez, Rob Delaney, and John Ortiz.
SEASON PREMIERE: STAR WARS: YOUNG JEDI ADVENTURES (Disney+) – The first batch of episodes of this preschool-aimed animated series premieres today. The season’s second half arrives in early 2025.
WORST EX EVER (Netflix) – This new docuseries, from the creators of Worst Roommate Ever, centers on “four true stories” involving violence and assault between former partners. Composed of testimonials, bodycam footage, and animated reenactments, the 4 hour long episodes reveal the disturbing stories of monstrous past relationships.
ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING SEASON 4 TRAILER _ The Season 4 trailer for Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building was released Tuesday. In the trailer, Mabel (Selena Gomez), Charles (Steve Martin), and Oliver (Martin Short) travel to Hollywood after a studio expresses interest in turning their podcast into a movie. They meet their Hollywood counterparts, played by Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, and Zach Galifianakis. However, their excitement is cut short when they learn that Charles’ stunt double, played by Jane Lynch) has been murdered. The trio, along with their new Hollywood friends, begins investigating the crime. Melissa McCarthy also has a role. Season 4 premieres on August 27. • TRAILER
SLOW HORSES SEASON 4 TRAILER _ Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) is always in a joking mood — even, it seems, after losing one of his agents. In the Season 4 trailer for Slow Horse, which Apple released on Tuesday, the Slough House team is called into the case of a serial bomber, which rattles all of London — except, it seems, the always unflappable Lamb. • TRAILER
… We also meet a new character played by Ruth Bradley of Ted Lasso, who is immediately at odds with the prickly spy. When she refers to his agents as “the rejects,” he tells her, “They don’t like being called that.” When she asks what he calls his team, he naturally replies, “The rejects.”
CAN ALIEN: ROMULUS TOPPLE DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE? _ Summer 2024 continues its march into fall with the Friday release of Alien: Romulus. Since its launch in 1979 with Ridley Scott’s Alien, the Alien franchise has been something of a summer staple, launching six of its nine flicks in either May, June, July, or August. Experts are estimating that Alien: Romulus will bring in at least $35 million and up to $50 million.
CREEPY WOMAN OF THE HOUR TRAILER _ Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut, “Woman of the Hour,” is about a chilling encounter between serial killer Rodney Alcala and Cheryl Bradshaw on “The Dating Game.” In a twisted dramedy, Kendrick, portraying Bradshaw, faces Alcala’s ominous promise of a good time before a sinister twist unfolds. • TRAILER
… Alcala, known as the “Dating Game Killer,” was an American serial killer and sex offender who was convicted of murdering at least five people in California between 1977 and 1979, and he was also linked to several other murders across the United States. Alcala’s criminal activities were marked by his manipulative behavior, as he often posed as a photographer to lure his victims, and he gained notoriety for appearing on the television show “The Dating Game” in 1978 during his murder spree.
