BOX OFFICE _ Deadpool & Wolverine continues to dominate the box office, bringing in an impressive $97 million over the weekend. In ten days, the film has made $824 million globally and is expected to reach $1 billion by the end of this week.

… One year ago this week the number one movie was Barbie.

TOM CRUISE TO EXECUTE MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE STUNT AT OLYMPICS CLOSING _ Tom Cruise will take on an exhilarating challenge to close out the Paris Olympics. TMZ has reported that Cruise will rappel down from the top of Stade de France (the national stadium of France) during the ceremony on August 11. His mission? To land on the stadium field and carry the official Olympic flag before a pre-recorded video shows him flying from Paris to Los Angeles, landing atop the iconic Hollywood sign.

… While some speculate a stunt double may handle the precarious descent, given Cruise’s reputation for performing his stunts, it’s more likely he will do it himself.

THE LAST OF US SEASON 2 _ Fans of “The Last of Us” are getting excited about the upcoming second season of the HBO drama. In a recent Max promo ad, the first footage of the highly anticipated sophomore season was unveiled, hinting at a major change from the original game storyline.

… In the clip, newcomer Catherine O’Hara, known for her role in “Schitt’s Creek,” questions Joel about Ellie, asking, “Did you hurt her?” Joel’s unexpected response, “I saved her,” deviates from the confession he makes to his brother Tommy in the video game.

… “The Last of Us” Season 2 is set to premiere next year and will consist of seven episodes, down from the nine episodes in the first season.

ZAC EFRON SAYS HE IS ‘HAPPY AND HEALTHY’ AFTER SWIMMING INCIDENT IN SPAIN _ Actor Zac Efron assured fans of his well-being after a brief hospitalization due to a swimming incident in Spain. Efron took to Instagram Sunday to share that he is “happy and healthy” and thanked everyone for their well wishes.

… The incident occurred during Efron’s stay at a villa in Ibiza when he experienced a minor mishap while using the pool. As a precaution, he was taken to the hospital and released the next morning.

SOURCE CLAIMS IT KNOWS WHY AFFLECK AND LOPEZ SPLIT _ The reported cause of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s impending divorce has supposedly been revealed. The Daily Mail claims sources suggest that Affleck’s past struggles with alcoholism have played a significant role in the couple’s decision to part ways.

… Allegedly, Affleck was devastated by Lopez’s decision to launch a cocktail line, as it triggered concerns about potential relapses. The “source” claims the idea of his wife venturing into an alcohol-related business reportedly struck a nerve, leading to the breakdown of their relationship.

JOHN WICK: UNDER THE HIGH TABLE IS COMING _ The premiere of John Wick: Under the High Table has been confirmed for a September 22 release date. The sequel TV series to “John Wick 4,” is co-developed by Keanu Reeves and will explore events immediately following the fourth film in the franchise. No word yet on where it will stream.

SYDNEY SWEENEY RUMORED TO BE REUNITING WITH GLEN POWELL FOR REMAKE _ Rumors are swirling that Sydney Sweeney might join Glen Powell in the upcoming remake of the 1987 action film “Running Man.” The duo previously worked together in “Anyone But You.”

… “Running Man,” based on the Stephen King novel, is set to start filming this Fall. The original movie starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and depicted a deadly game show in a dystopian future where a falsely convicted policeman, Ben Richards, must participate in a brutal TV game show to earn his freedom by battling professional killers.

HOUSE OF DRAGON WILL DELIVER 4 SEASONS _ HBO’s “House of the Dragon” will conclude with Season 4, confirmed by showrunner Ryan Condal. Season 3 is in the works, aiming for production in early 2025.

PRESUMED INNOCENT ACTOR NOT RETURNING _ Apple TV+ has confirmed the return of “Presumed Innocent” for Season 2, but fans might be disappointed to learn that Peter Sarsgaard, who played deputy chief prosecutor Tommy Molto in Season 1, will not be returning to the legal thriller. In an interview (with IndieWire), Sarsgaard explained his decision, stating, “I’m not really that interested in sequels… I think I’m a one-season person.” Despite his departure, lead actor Jake Gyllenhaal will return behind the scenes as an executive producer for the new season.
