Celebrity Status: Did Superman Defeat The Fantastic Four? Wyle E. Coyote Movie Finally Coming?
Mister Fantastic and his family are back on the big screen, only this time under the rule of Marvel Studios instead of 20th Century Fox.
In a needed win for both Kevin Feige‘s Marvel Studios and the franchise itself, Matt Shakman’s Fantastic Four: First Steps rocketed to a global opening of $218 million, including $118 million domestically and $100 million overseas.
Universal and Amblin’s Jurassic World: Rebirth is also celebrating. It earned $13 million in its fourth weekend to clear the $300 million domestically after clearing the $600 million milestone globally a week ago.
In yet another milestone, Apple Original Films’ F1: The Movie zoomed past the $500 million mark, a number no one could have foreseen. The Formula One movie, which Warner Bros. is releasing and marketing on behalf of Apple, placed fourth for the weekend domestically with $6.2 million for a domestic total of $165.6 million. Overseas, it added another $20 million for a foreign total of $344.1 million and $509.7 million worldwide.
Paramount’s Smurfs reboot couldn’t recover in its second weekend, declining 51 percent to $5.4 million for a 10-day domestic tally of $22.8 million. Ditto for Columbia and Screen Gems’ I Know What You Did Last Summer, which tumbled even more in its sophomore outing, or 60 percent to $5.1 million for a domestic tally of $23.6million.

Hollywood’s improbable underdog “Coyote vs. Acme” has finally landed a global theatrical release date. Star Will Forte announced at the film’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con that the live-action/animation hybrid will premiere on Aug. 28, 2026.
“Coyote vs. Acme” — about Looney Tunes stalwart Wyle E. Coyote suing the Acme Corporation for all its faulty tools in his pursuit of the Road Runner — was infamously shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery in 2023 after it was completed.

To celebrate the final show of the music icon’s latest global tour at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday night, Beyoncé reunited with her former band members, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, for the first time in several years for a surprise Destiny’s Child performance.

“Star Trek: Starfleet Academy,” the newest series in the nearly 60-year-old franchise, warped into San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday with an introduction of its full cast and the first trailer for the show, which will debut in early 2026.
The series takes place in the 32nd century after the events of “Star Trek: Discovery,” with Starfleet relaunching the titular educational institution outside of San Francisco after the Federation’s absence on Earth for more than 120 years.
Oscar-winner Holly Hunter plays Nahla Ake, the school’s chancellor and the captain of the USS Athena. The teaser ends with a shot of Paul Giamatti as the season’s main villain, Nus Braka, who is part-Klingon, part-Tellarite and is described in a Paramount release as “a man with an ominous past connected to one of our cadets.”
