Mornings

For Monday, February 2nd:

From the red carpet where Chappell Roan was *almost* topless to Cher accepting her Lifetime Achievement Award then leaving the stage before she announced the nominees for Record of the Year, and Trevor Noah tricking Bad Bunny into performing even though he wasn’t allowed to because of the terms of his Super Bowl halftime show contract… it was another Grammy Awards show for the books. and Bad Bunny made history, winning album of the year, the first time a Latin album has done so. Overall, Kendrick Lamar was the top winner of the night with five trophies, and he has now surpassed Jay-Z’s record for the most Grammys won by a rapper.

Other winners included Kendrick Lamar and SZA for Record of the Year for “Luther”, Song of the Year went to Billie Eilish for Wildflower, Lady Gaga’s Mayhem won Best Pop solo album, Best Pop Solo Performance went to Lola Young for “Messy” and Olivia Dean took home the Best New award. Best Pop Duo/Group Performance went to Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande for “Defying Gravity” from Wicked, and Best Contemporary Country Album went to Jelly Roll.

At the box office, the survival thriller ‘Send Help’ starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien needed no help whatsoever to take the top spot with $20 million in ticket sales. The sci-fi horror film “Iron Lung” was second with $17.9 million, far exceeding expectations. And the documentary Melania also earned more than expected with $7 million.

In other headlines, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Helena Bonham Carter, Chris Messina, and Marissa Long have been cast in The White Lotus as it heads to France for a fourth season.

And the weekend was full of tributes to Canadian actress Catherine O’Hara… we found out Friday afternoon that she had passed away at the age of 71. There’s a collective sadness unlike any we’ve seen for a long time… and not just here in Canada. If there’s a heaven, she and John Candy are sharing a joke and a big hug right now.
